Archery—RRES 200
This course provides men and women with instruction in target style archery. Emphasis is on the archery form currently used in Olympic sports. Students will use only the recurve bow, the compound bow will not be used in this class. Participants will learn safety rules, scoring, stance, release of arrow, and execution of follow through. Information on basic equipment selection and set-up will also be taught and all equipment will be provided by the instructor. All equipment will be provided by the instructor. Techniques will be tailored to fit individual levels of advancement.

Intermediate Bowling—RRES 200
This intermediate bowling course will include lessons on the three factors of rolling the ball: ball weights and how they affect the path down the lane; how different ball surfaces affect ball reaction; and differences in ball cover stocks, counter weights, and balance holes. Students will learn how to play different lane conditions and how it affects your ability to score, and how to make lane adjustments. Advanced bowling terminology, the history of the game of bowling, and governing bodies will be discussed in class. There will be videotaping of the student bowler for review and to document progress.

Boxing 1—RRES 200
Boxing 1 will introduce students to the sport of USA Olympic Style Boxing in a safe and comfortable environment. Students will learn the basics of boxing and develop a foundation on which to build upon their boxing skills. Boxing 1 will teach 6 different boxing punches, a proper boxing stance, footwork, movement, how to shadow box and defense of the slip and roll. Students will be introduced to the many rhythmic bags, heavy bag and focus mitts. No sparring course.
On the first day of class, students will place their order for their proper boxing equipment needed for this course: Safety gloves, curved focus mitts, 180” stretchable hand-wraps. Renting is an option and will be discussed on the first day of class. Equipment total will vary from $60-$85+ depending in students choice to rent or buying and quality of equipment they purchase.

Boxing 4—RRES 200
Boxing 4 will emphasize boxing skills needed for competition. Students will learn how to move in the ring, get off the ropes and out of the corner, work the corner as a coach, USA Boxing rules including how to judge a boxing match, how to be an inside boxer, pressure boxer, defensive boxer and how develop a style to suit their body type. In compliance with Amateur or Olympic-style boxing programs, Boxing 4 also provides these opportunities for participants: respect for the ring, respect for the sport and it’s rules, character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, structure and work ethic. No sparring course.

Rock Climbing—RRES 200
Learn the sport of rock climbing from the “ground up.” No prior experience is needed, as this course is designed for novice to intermediate climbers who would like to learn the foundational skills and information needed to enhance knowledge about rock climbing as well as enhance rock climbing skills and abilities. Students will learn about climbing gear and terminology, how to belay, and how to tie basic climbing knots. Students will leave this course with a belay certification at the KSU Rockwall. A large focus of the course will teach progressive climbing movement skills, from beginner to more advanced movements. Most of this course is activity based, so students will be expected to physically push themselves in order to advance their skills and ability to climb harder grades.

Bushcraft Skills—RRES 200 *NEW FOR SPRING*
The Bushcraft Skills course is designed to give students exposure to and practice with several core outdoor skill groups. Upon completion of the course students will be well versed in three main areas: Fire Making, Camp Craft, and Backcountry Navigation.
Student competency of skill will be shown through a short individual orienteering exercise and a long range orienteering course to be completed as a group. This is a completely hands-on class; students will need to meet clothing and fitness requirements, including the ability to hike four miles over uneven terrain.
Sessions will be held in portions of the Tuttle Creek State Park operated by KDWPT, and in Carnahan Park operated by Pottawatomie County. The class will meet at the UFM building at 12:30pm; students will provide individual transportation or carpool to and from class locations. The course will include three independent sessions to be held over two weekends on Saturday, Sunday, and the following Saturday. The Sunday of the second weekend will be reserved for rescheduling a session if necessary due to extremely inclement weather.

Back Country Experience—RRES 200
The Back Country Experience course is designed to give students an opportunity to apply outdoor skills and concepts in a multi-day venture in the outdoor classroom. Major topics covered will be: regulating core body temperature, modern and primitive shelter, procuring necessities from the natural environment, natural awareness, central fire and solo reflection. Each day will include instruction, debrief, individual student demonstrations and group exercises. Studnets need to be prepared to spend extended periods of time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Students will spend two nightds in personally provided tent and sleeping gear.

Beginning Fencing—RRES 200
Beginning fencing is an introduction to the fundamentals of modern sport fencing. Of the three weapon types (foil, epeé, sabre) sanctioned in international competitions, only foil is taught in beginning fencing. Fencing entails progressive conditioning of the shoulders, lower torso and legs along with fine motor enhancement of the fingers and wrists. Understanding fencing has wide application off the strip- integrating diplomacy, aggression, speed and skill. This course may not be repeated for credit.

Scuba Diving—RRES 200
This course will prepare students for NAUI Scuba Diver Certification. Areas of information covered include introductory information for certification, knowledge of the equipment, physics of diving, medical problems related to diving, use of diving tables, diving environment, and general information. The date for certification will be determined at a later date. A certification fee of $75 will be assessed at the time of check out dives. However neither UFM nor KSU is responsible for the certification. Travel and lodging are at the student’s expense. Students must provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel, which will be available for purchase at the first class. Equipment ranges in price from $100 to $175. There is a nonrefundable materials fee of $50 for withdrawing from the class after the first day.

Scoring, rules, single and doubles formation, shot selection and match play will also be covered. Come enjoy the “Sport of a Lifetime”. Traditional Self-Bow—RRES 200
The Traditional Bow Course is designed to give students detailed instruction and hands on experience in the creation of a wooden self-bow. The course will include 16 contact hours. First session is a two-hour classroom introduction on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm. This will be followed by two field sessions, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The class experience is immersive in nature, includes detailed instruction, regular debrief, and short exams via individual student demonstration and written responses. Upon completion of the course students will be well versed in traditional bow history, design, tool safety, selecting and finishing wood staves, and crafting flemish strings. Students will complete the course with a functional self-bow of their own making. Outdoor sessions will be held in portions of the Tuttle Creek State Park operated by KDWPT. Transportation to and from outdoor class locations will be provided. Students need to be prepared to spend extended periods of time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
